Earlier, Trump said on social media that Iran's new regime president had reached out, though he did not clarify who he was referring to. the US president also set out conditions for any potential ceasefire, saying it would only be considered when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and clear.

Until then, he warned the US would continue its military campaign, using stark language to describe ongoing operations. In a further development, Trump also said he is considering withdrawing the United States from NATO. Those such a move would face legal hurdles following legislation passed in 2023 limiting a president's ability to exit the alliance without congressional approval.
